What is specific to Tucson
Tucson runs two calendars laid on top of each other. The university fills and empties the city on its own schedule, and the winter visitor season runs on another. A room that is quiet in July and slammed in February needs a system you can staff up against quickly, which in practice means a new hire has to learn it in one shift rather than one week.
Heat is the thing nobody warns you about. Terminals and card readers left on a patio through a Tucson summer fail in ways they simply do not fail elsewhere. We specify hardware that can take it and place it so the equipment survives the season.
